Research.
Dr. Bailit's research interests include the development and evaluation of delivery system innovations for underserved populations and community-based dental education programs.
This six year project is a national demonstration program designed to reduce disparities in access to dental care. The 15 participating dental schools are recruiting more underrepresented and low-income students, having senior students and resdients spend an average of 60 days in patient-centered community clinics providing care to underserved patients, and preparing students to care for a diverse group of patients.
The Endowment is supporting the participation of all five California dental schools in the Pipeline, Profession and Practice program.
This three year project is assessing the financial and political feasibility of new models of dental education. Dental schools are under increasing financial pressure and need to look a new educational models that will provide them the resources needed to meet their educational, research, and service missions.
